I own a copy of both this and the 2nd edition the latter of which had some content cut out so that they could sell it as multiple books. It's a fun and goofy game, though I don't recommend playing it too seriously.
The rules are easily gamed, and the lack of balance can really derail the game if everyone is playing for keeps. This is a game where you can literally play a Golden Age style Superman or a talking pigeon. And if you have a game with both then everyone should be working together to have a heroes unlimited 2nd edition pdf free download time. Despite the fact that the second edition lacks the Game Master content found now in the overpriced Game Master's GuideI'd still recommend picking it up over this one.
The rules and options are expanded on, and it fixes some of the more glaring imbalances and fills in some holes in the rules. Having both does eliminate the need for the more pricey 2nd edition supplements though.
